A cancer diagnosis threatens more than health—it can destroy financial stability. With treatment costs rising, many families face impossible choices, and financial distress can double the risk of death. While the healthcare system lags in solutions, nonprofits like New Day Foundation step in, providing immediate financial and emotional support to keep families afloat during treatment.
New Day Foundation received a transformative $2.5 million grant from the A.A. Van Elslander Foundation, its largest ever. This funding expands support for Michigan families facing cancer, covering housing, utilities, and food.
“We’re grateful for this investment to combat financial toxicity in cancer care,” said New Day’s President, Gina Kell Spehn.
Since 2018, the Clarkston LAX “Game for Hope” has raised funds for families battling cancer. This year’s $21,546 donation pushed their total past $100,000! Thank you, Clarkston, for your generosity and support!
New Day Foundation for Families welcomes Lori Wingerter, former GM chief philanthropy officer, to its board of directors. With decades of leadership in corporate social impact and nonprofit service, Wingerter brings invaluable expertise to help expand New Day’s mission of providing financial and emotional support to families facing cancer across Michigan.
